Equipment Spanish scientists from the Biomedical Research Center Network for Mental Health (CIBERSAM) and FIDMAG Hospitaller Sisters has developed a Governance Model algorithm capable of detecting the schizophrenia through the analysis of fingerprints. This advance represents a major step forward in the application of the biometrics for the detection of psychological traits and mental disorders.
In this study they analyzed the fingerprints of 700 patients with schizophrenia and 850 people without the disease.
The research is based on the relationship between the embryonic development of the skin and nervous system, which suggests that certain fingerprint patterns may be associated with conditions neurological and psychiatric.
This algorithm has demonstrated a high accuracy in identifying schizophrenia, which opens the door to future applications in other disorders such as autism or bipolar disorder.
The potential of biometrics in medicine This progress strengthens the sector, offering new opportunities for the detection and diagnosis of mental illnesses from unique physiological traits, which could favor a earlier and more accurate identification.
